I'm hitting the video heavy on the blog lately since I'm finishing revisions. 🙂 No time for much else!
But I think I've mentioned that I always listen to specific music for different books. I don't necessarily pick it; it picks me. And I've discovered that the next book is an Amy Winehouse book. Don't know why, but that's the music that moves me most when I'm working on it.
I hope I can write with half as much emotion as she conveys in this version of Love is a Losing Game. What do you think? Is she talented or what? I hope she gets it together. It's a shame to see someone squander such immense gifts with self-destructive behavior.
Do you have favorite writing music? Or, if you can't write with music playing, do you have something you like to listen to before or after writing in order to get you in the right frame of mind?
I'm not into Amy Winehouse but Adele, WOW!. She's incredibly young, humble and has a powerful voice that can stretch and curve beyond your wildest imaginings.
I listen to soundtracks when I write, mostly because I can get those in the time era I'm writing in. One day, I'd like to write something I can play the Gladiator music to. But until then I write to Master and Commander, Pride & Prejudice, Somewhere in Time, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Ironman.
Ya know, that’s the first time I’ve ever listened to Amy Winehouse, who seems hell-bent on self-destruction. Her voice reminds me of someone and I can’t put my finger on it.
I can’t listen to vocals when I write — only instrumentals. I use Pandora or Playlist.com. I’ve built a couple instrumental playlists by artists I’ve found on Pandora. I also have a Creativity CD with music designed to home in on your brainwaves. I have it on a flash drive too so I can take it along and play it on the laptop if I go to Starbucks.
Good luck with the revisions. I’m so close to finishing my book. “The End” is in sight.
I’ve never heard of Adele. Will have to look her up! When I was writing historical, I loved to listen to Braveheart. 🙂
PM: Hubby says she reminds him of Shirley Bassey. I never listened to her until about a week ago — and now I can’t seem to quit. I think she’s amazing, and I sure hope she gets her head straight. Be a shame to lose that voice.
I love Pandora too! I have a few playlists there, and I also have the Creativity album!
Good luck on reaching The End! I MUST do so today. Or sometime in the AM, since my editor wants the revisions tomorrow….
Yeah… maybe Shirley Bassey with a little Dionne Warwich and Norah Jones thrown in for good measure.
Go here to see the downward spiral of Amy Winehouse in photos. It’s not pretty.
