Remember this guy? I'm admitting my age here, but I remember him on General Hospital (Dr. Noah Drake). And I saw him in concert. Yeah, I really did.
I still enjoy the song, though I'm thinking that Jessie's girl isn't all that hot after all. Rick could do better. 🙂
I didn't have MTV when it premiered (1981 for you youngsters), but I got it a couple of years later when my family moved to town. My brother and I would stay up all night watching videos. There were so many cheesy ones, now that I think back on it, but you know I didn't think so then. They were mini-stories, and I just ate them up.
What songs do you remember from your teenage years? Any favorite videos you can remember?
Uh… there were no videos when I was a teenager. My family didn't even have a color TV until after I left for college. My high school years were filled with the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, Sonny and Cher, the Supremes, Simon & Garfunkle, The Monkees, and Aretha.
Two songs I seem to remember most are Ode to Billy Joe by Bobbie Gentry and Harper Valley PTA by Jeannie C. Riley. I guess I remember them because they're basically novelty tunes. And I still wonder what they threw off the Tallahatchee Bridge.
I remember those two songs, PM. I’m not sure how old they were when I heard them, but they were certainly on the radio station my mother listened to.
And I remember they made a movie out of Billy Joe with Robbie Benson. 🙂
I remember that too!
Oh! MTV in the early days when songs like “I’m the Garbage Man”, “In Cars”, “Freeze Frame”, and “Angel in a Centerfold”. Iggy Pop, The Cars, J. Giles Band, and more. Those were the days when MTV played music videos, when we finally got to get a good look at singers rather than rely on Album covers to show us who they were. Days when reality shows didn’t exist and music was showcased all day long. Yeah, baby!!
I grew up on MTV. The Buggles – Video Killed the Radio Star. Madonna – Lucky Star. Heart – These Dreams. Michael Jackson – Beat It! Videos were awesome back then. I don’t even know why they bother now, except to load them on YouTube.
