Is it Thursday already? I've been a bit, um, mired in the writing lately. The good news is that the mountain is being scaled. The bad is that I haven't reached the top yet. *sigh*
So, not a lot of coherent thoughts today. Just working like a dawg and trying to get to the magical end of the book. There comes a point in every book for me where I think I just can't pull it off, can't manage to make the whole thing into a coherent tale, and that I'm just writing a series of unconnected scenes that I make up as I go along. That's where I am now.
But it usually works out, so I can only hope for the same result this time around. What are you working on?
Don't forget about the auction to help a homeless teen and her mother! You can bid on a one chapter + synopsis critique from me. Or many other cool things! Click here. Information about the auction in general is here.
“…that I’m just writing a series of unconnected scenes that I make up as I go along.”
You mean that’s now how we’re supposed to do it???
“scenes that I make up as I go along.”
Isn’t that the point? 🙂
LOL. Glad to hear that I am not the only one who feels like they’re just “writing a series of unconnected scenes that I make up as I go along.”
What are you writing about this time?
Barbara
Writing is like slugging your way through a swamp. If only it could be more like skipping through a sunlit meadow…
LOL, y’all! Of course you’re supposed to make it up. But I wish I was one of those super Plotters who have an amazing outline, a storyboard (ahem, PM), all these lovely arcs, and absolute knowledge when I sit down that THIS is what will happen.
No, I meander down the road, taking turns here and there, etc. I delete a lot, and I write a lot, and I somehow get there. But oh what a pain!
Kathy, ain’t that the truth!
Barbara, I’m writing about a prince and his captive bride. 🙂 I love my prince, sigh. Now I hope my editor loves him!
That story board just said “X must happen in this chapter.” Then I had to make up how and where and when they accomplished X.”
And I’m not sure I’ll use one again — maybe a miniaturized version in a notebook. But I’m way more of a pantster than I thought.
It was a beautiful story board, though. And if it helped you figure out you are a pantser (organic writer, lol), then it did its job!
Storyboard mania. I love it!!
word verf: human
Yay for random scenes!
I find the amazing door sized storyboards intimidating and more a hindrance than a help. I thought it would make me a better writer, I thought it would give me something to look at to guilt me into sticking to my plans on a bad day but the truth is I can make the damn thing pretty forever. I can procrastinate with it like never before – it rivals the internet! I’ve done pictures, I’ve done collages, I’ve done the delete button when the whole thing went to hell 🙂
Your way’s better 😉
Nikki
Nikki, I’m with you! Those things intimidate me! 🙂
