Do you get a lot of it? Because I don't seem to lately. I go to bed at a reasonable hour (sort of) and then I lay awake thinking about what I need to do, what I want to do, and what is going to happen. Not a lot of fun to be tired and have your mind race.
When morning rolls around, the hubby gets up for work. And I can't help but get up with him. Right now, his parents are visiting. And there's a whole relationship with coffee that I thought I understood but apparently don't. I love my coffee in the morning, don't get me wrong.
But my FIL is SO worried about it, like I'm going to oversleep and he will have to sit there without it for hours on end, that I make sure I get up and put a pot on. I just can't listen to the endless questions every night — “Will you make coffee in the morning?” or “Is there going to be coffee in the morning?” or “Are you making coffee?”
As IF.
So, even if I haven't slept well, I have to get up and make the coffee. Add in the stress of revisions, submissions, and waiting for news and you have an insomniac writer. Guess I could work on the next book idea…..
Do you have trouble sleeping? What do you do for it? Do you have a crazy FIL who obsesses about coffee? Let's talk. Just wake me up if I'm dozing….
Looks like you need the kind of coffee pot with a timer that brews automatically. Then you can proudly announce that coffee will be available at 7 and be done with it. I don’t even like coffee, but I have a coffee pot for holidays and when DB’s family comes up. I set the timer, but even if I didn’t, my inlaws would just make some if they wanted to.
Sleep is important. I’ve found that lately, I’m not sleeping very well. Who knows why? Most times my head hits the pillow and I’ve got about 3 minutes before I’m asleep. Other times, I’ll lie there for hours, my mind racing.
Last night I dreamt that I lost the RWA election. I was relieved. 🙁
Well, I know Lynn drinks the fancy coffee, so maybe the in-laws just can’t wait for a cup. Me, I need my Diet Coke first thing…
Oh gee, SP is so logical! My pot is a grind and brew. But it has a timer! Ask me how it works, though. *g* I guess I could drag out the instructions, load up the beans and water, and set it so he won’t freak.
Maybe your sleep troubles are because of all you have going on? Election, party, retreat, etc. It’s impossible to stop your mind from racing once it starts. I woke up around 4, went to the restroom, and couldn’t get back to sleep. But I think I figured out the next book….
PC, it’s not all that fancy! Beans, freshly ground! Jamaican these days, though as long as it’s 100% Arabica and a medium roast, I’m good. Or Kona. 🙂
Oh, believe me, the in-laws drink a watered down version of something they like to call coffee at home. I don’t think they know the difference, because whenever I go to their house, it’s still the watered down yucky stuff. My coffee has not converted them….
Maybe you should buy a cheap little coffee pot for them to use with a timer that’s easy to setup and uses regular coffee. Maybe put it in the guest room with some mugs so they can enjoy it without having to come downstairs or whatever.
I thought you had the Cuisinart with the timer like mine. But I like SP’s idea of putting a four-cup coffeemaker in the guest bedroom or bathroom and letting them make their own. It’d be like staying in a hotel — Chez Harris.
I haven’t slept well the past month. It’s not my restless legs either. I have brain fog, can’t concentrate on reading or writing and have watched endless hours of Law and Order SVU. I just discovered The Closer and love it. Why didn’t I know about this show before? Kyra Sedgwick’s character is terrific.
My FIL has been threatening to buy his own coffee pot and bring it up. I should let him. Then he could have his freeze-dried crystals and I can have my beans.
PM, I do have the same one! I guess I should really figure out the programming. I’m just lazy.
Hugs on not sleeping. 🙁 I’ve seen The Closer once, and you are right, it’s terrific! I can’t wait for Life to come back on. Next week, I think. Looooove that show! I’m going to have to record The Closer too. Don’t know when I’ll have time to watch though…..
I just have the Cuisinart. I don’t know how to program it. LOL! I’m a tea drinker rather than coffee and I love my electric kettle.
Maybe all the coffee talk is keeping y’all awake… 🙂
What is really annoying is if one of the kids gets me up during the night, or I wake up and have to go to the bathroom, then a song starts playing in my head. Whatever it is, it runs over and over and over, until I think I’ll scream if it doesn’t stop. So of course I can’t sleep! I have tried counting slowly to keep my mind focused on something besides words. That helps some. Otherwise, I’m clueless!
Angel, if I wake up during the night, it’s over. Last night, I didn’t even look at the clock (that sometimes makes it worse) but it had to be about 4. And then I just thought and thought. But I think I came up with a new plot, LOL!
I think we can’t help but think of words. It’s our thing. *sigh*
